Whataburger debuts 4th Springfield-area restaurant

Whataburger created much fanfare among Springfield restaurantgoers with the early 2022 news of five stores coming to the market. Now, four of them are in operation.

The latest eatery, at 2355 N. Glenstone Ave. on the north side of Springfield, launched yesterday, according to a news release.

“As we grow in this great city, our Whataburger family is thrilled to continue serving our loyal customers while welcoming new fans into the Whataburger family," said Sean Tamez, Whataburger operating partner who leads the North Glenstone restaurant, in the release. “We are excited to continue our expansion and bring Whataburger's signature flavors and hospitality to even more of the community.”

The restaurant at the southwest corner of Glenstone and Kearney Street is on the site of the former Springfield Inn, which was demolished to make way for new development, according to past reporting. Chick-fil-A also is planning to open a restaurant at the site.

Springfield's first Whataburger restaurant, 3880 W. Sunshine St., opened earlier this month. The first in the area, located in Republic, launched in December 2022, followed by a store in Ozark in January.

A Whataburger restaurant also is planned at 401 N. Eastgate Ave., near the Menards at Chestnut Expressway and U.S. Highway 65 interchange. City building permits show electrode and footings inspections have been approved, with other inspections pending.
