Uptown Boutique relocates to Brentwood Center

A recent relocation for The Uptown Boutique is expected to deliver "a more personalized shopping experience" for its customers, according to the store's owner.

Sarah Schaeffer Baumgart, owner of the women's clothing retailer, said July 22 was the first day in business for the store's new home at 2652 S. Glenstone Ave. in Brentwood Center North. The company previously operated in the Fremont Center at 1326 E. Battlefield Road.

With the relocation, The Uptown Boutique reduced its square footage to 2,500 from 3,200. The decrease in size was strategic, Baumgart said.

"Our new space is smaller and will allow us to deliver a more personalized shopping experience for our customers," she said via email. "I have been looking for a smaller space for a handful of years, but nothing felt right to me – whether it be the location, the timing, etc.

"The space in the Brentwood Center was presented to us at the beginning of this year, and everything happened from there."

The Uptown Boutique's relocation expenses were approximately $50,000, said Baumgart, who declined to disclose the terms of the company's three-year lease with Brentwood Center North owner Jared Commercial Real Estate LLC. The store has one full-time manager and five part-time sales associates, she said.

The Uptown Boutique, which offers items such as contemporary clothing, casual tops, shoes, handbags and jewelry, additionally will benefit from increased traffic at the Brentwood Center, Baumgart said.

"Competing in the brick-and-mortar retail apparel market can be tough these days with the increase in online shopping," she said. "The Brentwood Center, as a whole, attracts more foot traffic and our clientele of shoppers."

The Brentwood Center North space previously was occupied by Modern Society.

The Uptown Boutique was renamed from Uptown Angels in 2013 after Baumgart bought the business in 2011, according to past reporting.
