Ulta Beauty Inc. (Nasdaq: ULTA) is opening its second Springfield store.
Building permits filed with the city of Springfield indicate the beauty chain will be opening in Springfield Plaza next to Five Below in the northwest part of the city. Co-developer Tom Rankin of Rankin Development LLC declined to verify if Ulta Beauty was moving into the shopping center but said in an email that a future tenant was planning infill work for 10,000 square feet. He deferred further questions to Ulta Beauty.
Robert Lengfelder, vice president of business operations for Illinois-based project architect RGLA Solutions, confirmed the store plans, and Ulta Beauty has listed a job posting for a general manager on its website for a new store at 3920 W. Washita St. in Springfield Plaza. Representatives of Ulta Beauty said via email that "we're happy to send details once we're closer to an opening date."
Lengfelder said a target opening date has not yet been set and that a general contractor has not been hired for the infill work.
Ulta Beauty currently operates its sole Springfield store at 3434 S. Glenstone Ave. in Primrose Marketplace. Brendon Ruth, vice president of leasing for shopping center owner Chase Properties, said Ulta Beauty will continue to operate in Primrose Marketplace.
The beauty chain, which stocks makeup and hair products and offers salon services, announced a nationwide temporary closure beginning March 19 and lasting until March 31 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Ulta Beauty operates 1,254 retail stores in the U.S. and also sells its products online, according to its website.
Also undergoing infill work at Springfield Plaza is medical marijuana dispensary Ozarx Botanicals I LLC. Co-owner Kim Andrews previously told SBJ the business plans to occupy a 2,500-square-foot space.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
