Total Highspeed to invest $30M on rural broadband

Posted online

Total Highspeed LLC is branching out with plans to invest more than $30 million on wired rural broadband.

The project represents new a new tactic for Nixa-based Total Highspeed. Other than a project started last year in Highlandville, the company has historically provided wireless internet to homes and businesses, said Ken Thrasher, the company’s sales and marketing manager.

The latest fiber-to-the-home effort would bring speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second to rural households in the company’s 16-county footprint. The project will start with Greene County residents.

“Our goal is to have the rural Greene County project completed within three to five years,” Thrasher said via email.

Total Highspeed expects to start construction on the network within the next few months.

The Nixa company’s efforts come amid a statewide push to expand rural broadband.

"With reliable access to the the internet becoming more of a necessity, Total Highspeed will be providing this tremendous value to families and businesses in our rural coverage area." Total Highspeed President Travis Allen said in a news release.

Last year, Total Highspeed was a finalist in the six to 15 years in business category for Springfield Business Journal’s Economic Impact Awards. The company reported 2016 revenue of $6 million. Thrasher declined to disclose 2017 revenue.

The company’s wireless service typically involves using towers to create high-speed connections, according to past SBJ reporting.
