As one TLC Properties project outside of Missouri wraps up, the Springfield-based developer is beginning a second.

The company this morning broke ground on a Wichita, Kansas, apartment complex dubbed Union Mill, according to a news release. The development with more than 300 units is tailored to the 55-plus community.

"As our company continues to grow, so does our regional capacity and our product," said Sam M. Coryell, president of TLC Properties, in the release.

TLC Properties hired other Springfield companies for the Wichita project: O’Reilly Build LLC as general contractor and H Design Group LLC as architect, said Lance Lloyd, spokesperson for TLC Properties’ parent company, Coryell Collaborative Group. He declined to disclose the cost of the 365,000-square foot development, though the release indicated it's a multimillion-dollar project.

Lloyd said TLC Properties' first out-of-state project, dubbed Promenade Commons, is slated to open in November in Rogers, Arkansas. The development also is meant for the 55-plus community.

Union Mill in Wichita is designed with a swimming pool, dog park, pickleball courts, car wash, a community kitchen, a bodega, a putting green and other features, according to the release.

The project is slated for completion in winter 2022.

In Springfield, Coryell Collaborative Group is redeveloping the former Heritage Cafeteria site into a five-story residential and commercial property. The strip center directly south of the Heritage Cafeteria building recently was demolished as part of the project.
