The Wind radio expands signal to Joplin area

Posted online

Springfield’s The Wind radio station launched a new frequency in the Joplin area.

The frequency, 89.5 FM, serves Joplin, Lamar, Carthage, Neosho, Pierce City and Stockton. It features the same radio personalities, music and themes as the nonprofit Christian content station in Springfield via 88.3 FM, according to a news release.

“We are overjoyed, humbled and excited by what God has done with this expansion of the ministry of 88.3 The Wind,” said Chalmer Harper, station manager, in the release. “We are looking forward to serving these communities with not only our radio signal, but our hands and feet.”

Similar to its work in Springfield, The Wind plans to bring its community efforts to the Joplin area, running blanket and food drives.

With the Joplin-area frequency, The Wind — owned by Florida-based Radio Training Network Inc. — now has six signals in the Ozarks. The others are 88.3 in Springfield, 94.1 in Branson, 100.9 in Bolivar, 103.3 in Mansfield and 102.1 in Mountain Grove, according to the release.

The Wind in 2015 was the winner of Springfield Business Journal’s Economic Impact Awards honor for businesses with 16-29 years in operation. In 2014, the company hit a revenue milestone by crossing $1 million.
