SWMO nonprofits approved for $1.6M in tax credits

Seven Springfield-area nonprofits were selected by the Missouri Department of Economic Development to receive $1.6 million in state tax credits.

Bolivar-based Polk County House of Hope Inc. received the most Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits, at $350,000, according to a news release.

Polk County House of Hope officials intend to use the funds to build a 3,000-square-foot addition to its residential center that provides shelter and services for victims of domestic violence and their children.

The other six nonprofits are:
    •    Boys & Girls Club of the Ozarks in Branson, $348,442 to support after-school and summer programs for at-risk youth and their families in Stone and Taney counties;
    •    Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, $250,000 to provide after-school and summer programs at its Musgrave, Henderson and Stalnaker units;
    •    Ozarks Food Harvest, $250,000 to provide food to more than 270 of its member nonprofit organizations;
    •    Child Advocacy Center Inc., $152,000 to support its mission of serving child victims of sexual or physical abuse;
    •    Crosslines of Monett, Missouri Inc., $125,000 to construct a nearly 17,000-square-foot center to expand operations and better assist community members with utilities, rent, transportation and food; and
    •    Isabel's House Crisis Nursery of the Ozarks, $100,000 to support its 24-hour crisis shelter for at-risk families.

The local nonprofits were among 39 statewide to receive NAP credits, according to the release.

Through NAP, nonprofits can raise private-sector funds by providing partial tax credits to businesses and individuals who contribute to community improvement projects. Credits can equal up to 50 percent of the total contribution or up to 70 percent on projects in rural areas.
