Steve Edwards, who in May retired as CoxHealth's president and CEO, has been appointed to the Great Southern Bancorp Inc. (Nasdaq: GSBC) Board of Directors.

Edwards' three-year term starts Sept. 1, according to a news release.

"We value diversity of talent, knowledge and experience in our board members, and Steve’s background as the former president and CEO of CoxHealth, a leading regional health care provider, will bring another level of expertise and perspective to our board," Great Southern President and CEO Joe Turner said in the release.

Edwards worked for 30 years at CoxHealth, Springfield's largest employer, before his exit. CEO for the past 10 years of his tenure, Edwards was succeeded by Max Buetow.

Led by Chair William Turner, the board comprises Joe Turner, Julie Turner Brown, Thomas Carlson, Larry Frazier, Earl Steinert Jr., Kevin Ausburn, Debbie Shantz Hart and Doug Pitt, according to Great Southern's website. Edwards is an addition to the board.
