Springfield Public Schools named a deputy superintendent of operations as the current leader prepares to retire from the district.
Travis Shaw is being promoted from within SPS to the role, according to a news release. On July 1, he's scheduled to succeed John Mulford, who announced his exit in December.
Shaw, who joined SPS in 2017, is currently executive director of operations.
“I am extremely honored and humbled to serve as the next deputy superintendent of operations,” Shaw said in the release. “I am very grateful to [Superintendent Grenita] Lathan and the board of education for entrusting me with these new responsibilities. I look forward to working collaboratively and to the continued success of our district.”
The deputy superintendent of operations oversees financial and business services, transportation, facilities and construction, and human resources, among other areas, according to past reporting.
