Springfield pizza restaurant shutters

Luco's Pizza has shuttered after more than four years in business, but its owner says a new concept under a different name is in the works.

The restaurant, 2925 W. Republic Road, Ste. 100, announced the closure in a Facebook post yesterday.

"We want to thank every customer for making this an incredible experience," the post, signed by DF, reads. "We will be back, but with a new name and a food truck, and we plan to make even better pizzas next time."

Daniel Fenton opened the restaurant in May 2018 at the location of a former Rib Shack restaurant, according to past reporting. Fenton named the restaurant after his dog.

He expanded on the closure and his future plans in the comments of the Facebook post.

"I promise it’s not sad everyone! We were working ourselves to death and our sales never really increased like we needed. It just didn’t make sense to keep going," he said in the comment. "We definitely still want to make pizza and a food truck (will) allow us to be all over the place all the time! We can’t wait!"

Luco's Pizza's menu includes Luco's Legacy, a pizza with fig jam, prosciutto and other ingredients, and the Cowboy Killer, which comprises jalapenos, bacon, chicken, olive oil and ranch.
