Springfield Art Museum partners with CloudPano on virtual tours

Posted online

Artgoers have a new way to view the galleries at Springfield Art Museum through a partnership with a Texas virtual reality company with local ties.

CloudPano has used its 360-degree software program to map out the interior of the museum, 1111 E. Brookside Drive, according to a news release. The technology allows users to see all areas of the museum virtually and additionally supports virtual reality devices.

"Accessibility is a priority for the Springfield Art Museum, and these virtual tours underscore this fact," said Nick Nelson, museum director, in the release. "They will help us reach more people and allow more people to reach us, despite physical distance."

Southwest Missouri Museum Associates, a nonprofit organization that helps raise funds to support museum programs, provided $2,000 for the annual hosting fee, said Joshua Best, museum spokesperson, via email. The museum purchased the needed equipment at a cost of $1,200, he said.

"There is no end date on the partnership currently," Best said, noting CloudPano provides training support to shoot the museum's galleries moving forward. "We plan to offer these virtual tour opportunities for the foreseeable future."

While based in Houston, Texas, CloudPano’s co-founder, Clayton Rothschild, is a Springfield resident, according to past reporting.

A large early contract for the 2018-founded company was with Realtor.com, Springfield Business Journal previously reported.
