“As a municipal government, what we want to do is, we want to make a decision or provide a service in the most effective or efficient way, and that may or may not agree with certain public perspectives,” says Jason Gage, City Manager for the City of Springfield. Gage believes the city government should be scanning the public perspectives and looking for common ground. While leaders strive to achieve a win-win, it isn’t always possible. Gage says sensitivity is critical in the decision-making process.
