Sears seeks sale of Springfield store

Sears Holdings Corp. (Nasdaq: SHLD) plans to sell its store connected to Battlefield Mall at the end of the month.

The listing at Marketplace.RealInsight.com indicates the 210,337-square-foot store, located on the west side of Battlefield Mall at 2825 S. Glenstone Ave., is scheduled to be put up for bid on May 31.

The 12.7-acre site, which houses a department store and auto center, is fully occupied by Sears. The listing suggests the buyer may enter an agreement to lease back the store to Sears.

“Potential investors are afforded a unique opportunity to acquire fee-simple ownership and evaluate repositioning with sale-leaseback alternatives,” the listing reads.

Sears Holdings and Cushman & Wakefield officials — listed as investment sales brokers for the deal — could not be reached for comment by deadline.

Greene County assessor records show the property is currently owned by SRC Facilities Statutory Trust, an affiliate of Sears. The site has a 2018 taxable appraised value of $6.7 million, according to the assessor.

The Sears store, according to the listing, “reportedly has above average sales and outperforms the other anchors at Battlefield Mall.”

The Springfield store is one of 15 listed at Marketplace.RealInsight.com. Other Missouri stores for sale are located in St. Peters, Cape Girardeau and Mehlville.
