Save A Lot closes at Commercial, National

Posted online

The Save A Lot grocery store at Commercial Street and National Avenue has shuttered.

Signage posted to the door of the Save A Lot at 1117 E. Commercial St. indicates the store is permanently closed and invites customers to "our newly remodeled King Food Saver at 1831 W. Kearney St." Store operator Pyramid Foods recently transitioned its Price Cutter store to a King Food Saver at the Kearney Street address.

An official with Pyramid Foods could not be reached for comment by deadline. Price Cutter in 2012 purchased the assets of Summer Fresh Supermarkets Inc. and its 10 regional grocery store operations, including the Save A Lot on Commercial Street, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

The Save A Lot store, which operated in the Northview Center, opened in August 2011, SBJ previously reported.

Save A Lot's website indicates the closest store is in Forsyth. The website further indicates Save A Lot has more than 800 independently licensed stores.
