High Support, High Challenge

Having spent nearly half my life in leadership, I can certainly say that my personal leadership style has evolved over time. Early on, I wanted to take on everything! I felt, especially as a woman, that if I was going to be successful, I had to do it all and know it all. To me, that meant working the hardest, staying the longest, and being the greatest.

Time has taught me not to compromise on those standards but to realign my focus. I’ve learned that in order to lead effectively, you don’t have to know everything but rather to listen and understand. Both, when done successfully, allow you to make decisions that solve problems and become a resource to motivate and engage a team to do far greater things than you could have ever done independently.

Over time, I’ve learned the importance of truly serving the teams I have led, not my team serving me. Not everyone has aspirations to climb the proverbial corporate ladder, and that is okay. However, everyone is a leader in some capacity. My goal is to help everyone feel success where they are and where they are striving to be. Being a part of that journey is what being a leader is all about.

Today, I lead with the philosophy of being high support and high challenge. I hold everyone on my team to the highest standard, but I am always by their side to provide them with the guidance they need to thrive. If I can teach, train, and encourage others to find success in what they do, we become a stronger team.
