Russell Cellular pens new store acquisition

Battlefield-based Russell Cellular Inc. announced its third store acquisition of the year.

In the latest purchase, the Verizon Wireless retailer bought six stores in Florida from Wireless Stores. Financial terms were not disclosed in a news release.

“We look forward to serving our new customers in the greater Miami area,” Russell Cellular President and CEO Jeff Russell said in the release, noting the acquisition marks the company’s entrance into south Florida.

The stores opened as Russell Cellular, Verizon-branded locations on Thursday. With the purchase, Russell Cellular now has 658 stores in 37 states.

Russell Cellular last month announced two acquisitions, adding seven new stores. Last year, the company completed the two largest acquisitions in its history, bringing on 72 stores purchased from The Wireless Center and 71 from Ensignal, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

Jeven Russell, vice president of operations, previously told SBJ the company hit $600 million in 2019 revenue. That was below a previous year-end estimate of $650 million.

Russell Cellular in October completed its $6 million headquarters project in Wilson Creek Marketplace. During 2019, the company reported multiple sales records, most recently producing a monthly high of 81,974 total sales in November, according to SBJ reporting.
