Missouri Department of Economic Development Director Rob Dixon, who has career links to Springfield, is exiting his position at the state.

The department's four-year leader is slated to join St. Louis-based Ameren Missouri on Oct. 29 as director of community and economic development, according to a news release from the utility provider.

"Missouri is a great place to do business, and I'm excited to continue to help move our state forward in the years ahead in my new role with Ameren Missouri," Dixon said in the release. "I know the high commitment level of Ameren Missouri to attracting and retaining jobs in our state, and I'm humbled and honored to join the exceptional team focused on community and economic development."

After serving in the U.S. Marine Corp., Dixon worked for two years as executive director of the Hollister Area Chamber of Commerce. He joined the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce in 2010, serving in various roles, including manager of business development, vice president of business assistance, executive vice president and briefly as interim president.

He's also credited with working with Ozarks Technical Community College to open its Table Rock campus, according to past reporting.

Dixon joined the Missouri Community College Association and served as president and CEO for nearly three years before taking the DED role in 2017.

In a separate news release, Gov. Mike Parson thanked Dixon for his service to the state.

"Rob has built an incredibly strong team at DED, and while we will miss his leadership and common-sense approach, we know DED’s passionate and dedicated team members will help ensure a smooth transition and continue serving Missourians without delay," Parson said in the release.

Parson is considering candidates to lead the DED in an interim capacity until a permanent replacement can be appointed. An acting DED director is slated to be announced prior to Dixon's exit from the state on Oct. 22.
