Restaurateur teases new concept

Posted online

An established Springfield restaurateur has taken to social media to tease a new concept.

John Jung, who owns Haruno, Kai After Dark, Koriya and Karai with his wife, Young, in public Facebook posts over the weekend indicated their newest venture, called Ariake Sushi & Robata, is coming soon.

Jung could not be reached for comment on the concept by deadline.

Renovation work has been ongoing for months at 1110 E. Battlefield Road, the site of a shuttered Logan's Roadhouse restaurant. The roughly 8,000-square-foot property is owned by Jungs LLC, according to the Greene County assessor's website.

Pictures posted by Jung show a sushi bar, full-wall painting and LED screens that show videos of waves and the interior of a mall.

One Facebook post reads: “Introduce the Ariake restaurant. Here is the inside scene but we are still doing a lot of things to do. Please give us little more time.”

The word "robata" is the shortened form of robatayaki, a Japanese culinary method similar to barbecue that involves fireside cooking, according to a blog post on the subject from RokaAkor.com.

The Jungs opened Haruno in 1999, followed by Kai After Dark in 2007, Koriya in 2011 and Karai in 2018, according to Haruno's website.

"John looks forward to the future," the website reads. "He plans to continue tickling Springfield residents’ taste buds by creating new menu items and passing along the knowledge of sushi."
