Greene County is experiencing greater economic growth than many other areas in the state, according to a new report from financial data tracking firm SmartAsset.
The report indicates Greene County's inflation-adjusted gross domestic product grew by $557 million between 2019 and 2021. That ranks the area No. 5 among Missouri counties.
Additionally, SmartAsset measured 9.9 new building permits per 1,000 homes.
Business growth, defined as the number of new businesses established over the three-year period, was down 1.9%, according to the report.
St. Louis County is No. 1 in Missouri, with GDP growth of roughly $2 billion over the past three years, according to the report. No. 2 is Jackson County, with GDP growth of $1.2 billion, followed by No. 3 Saint Louis City (which also is a county), at $646 million, and No. 4 Saint Charles County, at $567 million.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
