Randy Stewart, who recently retired from KSMU after a nearly 50-year career at the region’s NPR affiliate, has died.
KSMU announced Stewart's July 1 death in a Facebook post this morning. Stewart, 67, had cancer, according to the radio station.
"He was an accomplished broadcaster, producer, editor and a skilled interviewer with expertise in broadcasting history, classical music and opera," the post reads. "He will be dearly missed."
Stewart hosted "Arts News," a weekly Friday morning show, and he produced weekend shows "Saturday Afternoon Classical" and "The Choral Tradition." Stewart’s biography at KSMU.org indicates he worked as a fine arts producer, and he became known as the de facto "Voice of KSMU" in recent years for his local station breaks.
Stewart, who started working at KSMU as a Missouri State University student in 1976, retired from full-time work at the station in March, according to the post.
