Springfield, MO
As we approach 2025, the Springfield Business Journal’s Economic Growth Series outlines a strategic roadmap for cultivating a vibrant and prosperous community. Insights from over 300 local business leaders reveal that enhancing quality of life, boosting economic development and fostering education and workforce initiatives are crucial to our collective vision.
Central to our future is the urgent focus on housing affordability. With 76% of business leaders identifying affordable housing as essential for maintaining southwest Missouri’s competitive edge, we must ensure a diverse range of affordable housing options is accessible. This commitment not only supports new residents but also stabilizes and energizes our neighborhoods. To make this happen, local governments and developers should collaborate on creating mixed-income housing projects to meet the growing demand.
Economic and business development is a continued priority. Notably, 37.5% of businesses plan to expand physical locations over the next five years, emphasizing the need for economic incentives that support small businesses. We should advocate for local programs designed to streamline the permitting process and create grant opportunities to stimulate job growth. Additionally, a regional approach will enhance these efforts, promoting collaborations that leverage the strengths of neighboring communities.
Education and workforce development are pivotal to our success. With 54% of businesses anticipating workforce expansion, investing in training programs and partnerships with educational institutions is essential. Programs that focus on skill development in high-demand fields – like technology and health care – can ensure our workforce meets industry needs.
Infrastructure and transportation improvements are vital for connecting residents to opportunities. Nearly 46% of local executives call for increased government investment in capital infrastructure. Advocating for modernized transportation networks and public amenities is essential. Addressing safety and crime concerns is fundamental in building trust within our communities. Encouraging collaboration between local law enforcement and community organizations will foster a safer environment, where all residents can thrive.
By embracing these priorities, we can unite as a community to drive sustainable growth and enhance quality of life across Springfield. The time is now to translate our insights into action and invest in the community we aspire to build. Together, we can shape a bright and inclusive future for Springfield and its residents.
