Gov. Mike Parson confirmed David Yancey as Greene County’s public administrator, a month after he took over the position in the interim.
With Parson’s approval, Yancey officially succeeds former Public Administrator Lee Ann Walker, who unexpectedly submitted her resignation letter in early January over health concerns, according to a news release.
It’s a return for Yancey, who retired as the county public administrator in 2016 after working eight years in the role. This time, he’s slated to serve a term that runs through Dec. 31, 2020.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be part of the Greene County family again,” Yancey said in the release. “The duties of this office are important to the community, and I will work hard to make sure the cases are managed to the best of our ability.”
The county’s public administrator oversees guardianship for mentally disabled residents, serves as representative for deceased estates and works as the conservator of minor estates. The administrator’s office currently oversees some 600 wards.
Yancey is scheduled to be sworn in at 4 p.m. today at the Greene County Commission offices in the Cox North medical tower, according to the release.
“We greatly appreciate Mr. Yancey’s willingness to serve Greene County citizens when called upon, even going so far as to come out of retirement to do so,” Presiding Commissioner Bob Dixon said in the release. “The individuals and estates entrusted with their affairs through the public administrator’s office are in good hands.”
