Pandemic unemployment fraud estimate jumps to $45.6B

The office of the inspector general of the Labor Department released a new estimate for COVID-19 pandemic unemployment fraud.

The estimate is now $45.6 billion. The fraud figure involves duplicate payments or payments made to dead people, individuals with suspicious email accounts or federal prisoners.

The estimate previously was $16 billion.
