The Ozark Board of Aldermen this week appointed a new mayor to serve until voters weigh in on the position this April.
Alderman RJ Flores was given the green light for the mayoral post during the board's Jan. 3 meeting, according to a news release and the board agenda. He succeeds Bradley Alan Jackson, who on Jan. 3 became commissioner of the Christian County Eastern District.
“As members of the Ozark Board of Aldermen, we are responsible for and responsive to the citizens of Ozark, a responsibility that is not taken lightly," Flores said in the release. "I am excited for this opportunity to serve the citizens of Ozark as their mayor."
At the board meeting this week, aldermen also approved a resolution to adopt an ordinance that would put the mayoral post, as well as three aldermen seats, on the April 4 election ballot. The meeting was livestreamed on YouTube.
Flores in April will seek reelection to his Ward 1 seat on the board and not the permanent mayoral post, Jackson said via email. Candidates for the mayor's office are current board members David Snider and Eddie Campbell, as well as a third person, Don Currence, Jackson added.
