A family-run business changed its ownership and name as part of a rebranding effort, with the Jan. 17 opening of Tequila & Mezcal Mexican Cuisine and Bar. Formerly Yoselin’s Mexican Cuisine & More LLC since 2016, Sofia Pavon-Wilson and her husband Scotty now own the Mexican restaurant at 431 S. Jefferson Ave. Pavon-Wilson, the daughter of Yoselin’s owners Juan Pavon and Maria Hernandez, said ownership was transferred with no money changing hands. Her parents will manage the restaurant in the short term as they near retirement, she added. The eight-employee eatery has a revamped menu, Pavon-Wilson said, with new offerings including chocolate chipotle enchiladas and mojo pork. Sunday brunch also is available with build-your-own burritos and quesadillas. The couple signed a five-year lease for an undisclosed rate with Wilhoit Plaza LP, she said, adding renovation costs were around $2,000.

Kokoro Training Academy
Formerly operating at 1357 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Kokoro Training Academy moved downtown Aug. 1, 2019, to 212 W. McDaniel St. The academy, co-owned by husband and wife Steve Haydock and Natosha Willhite-Haydock, offers classes in Brazilian jiujitsu, self-defense, stand-up striking, personal training and nutrition. The three-employee business, established in September 2018, fills the space formerly occupied by Hearts of Fire Tattoo LLC, which relocated to 331 S. Campbell Ave. Willhite-Haydock declined to disclose relocation costs or the two-year lease rate with Springfield Lofts. She said individual and group classes are provided for ages 5 and older. New students get their first five classes free, with punch cards for additional sessions priced $50-$100, according to its website. Monthly memberships are priced at $20-$40 for children and $40-$120 for adults.

Magnolia’s Market & Boutique LLC
After a year at 5219 E. South St. in Ozark, Magnolia’s Market & Boutique LLC moved Jan. 7 to 5219 N. 17th St. in Hopedale Plaza behind Lambert’s Cafe. Bobbi Ligon, who co-owns the business with daughter Heather White, said Magnolia’s Market took the place of fellow boutique store, SweetPea’s Vintage & More LLC, which moved spaces within the shopping center. Ligon and White are the lone employees of Magnolia’s Market, which includes farmhouse vintage and repurposed furniture, handmade jewelry, pottery, soy candles, artwork, and designer brand clothing for children and adults. Relocation costs were around $7,000, Ligon said, and the owners are on a one-year lease for an undisclosed rate with Lambert’s Cafe II Inc. A portion of the 2,400-square-foot boutique has dedicated private space for Bobbi’s Hair Studio, which Ligon said she’s operated for 46 years. White also works as a scheduler for Mercy, where she’s been for nearly 20 years.
