Moxy Springfield Downtown
The newest entry in Marriott International Inc.’s (Nasdaq: MAR) Moxy Hotels brand, Moxy Springfield Downtown, began operations on June 24. The eight-story, 98-room hotel, led by General Manager Susan Smith, was the first Moxy to launch in Missouri and joins 44 other locations in North America, according to Marriott’s website. O’Reilly Build LLC served as general contractor for the project designed by Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective. The 52,000-square-foot building, built in 1930, underwent a multiyear development. O’Reilly Hospitality Management CEO Tim O’Reilly, through South Street Partners LLC, purchased the building in 2017 for an undisclosed price from G&S Holdings LLC. Aside from its room portfolio offering king, double-queen and bunk-bed options, the Moxy includes the Eyrie, a rooftop bar and restaurant, a first-floor space dubbed Bar Moxy that doubles as the check-in area, and a basement for meetings and events that houses a food and beverage concept called The Subterranean.

Adriano’s Mobile Pizzeria
When Adriano Michael moved to Springfield in 2018 from California, he knew he wanted to open a restaurant serving authentic, Neapolitan-style pizzas. Now, after the June 12 opening of his food truck Adriano’s Mobile Pizzeria, Michael serves a variety of pizzas, priding himself on making homemade dough and using authentic ingredients imported from Italy. This will be Michael’s first time owning a business. He said startup costs were about $15,000, adding that he is the sole employee. The 72-square-foot mobile eatery is at 2336 S. Campbell Ave., near Westlake Ace Hardware in Campbell Marketplace, with a year-long lease. Michael said he rents the space from R.B. Murray Co. for $500 a month. His dream of making pizzas came from experience in culinary school at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California, and his time spent trying authentic pizzas in Naples, Italy. Pizza prices range $10-$12, and Michael also offers catering services and take-and-bake options.

7 Brew Coffee
The latest Queen City shop for Fayetteville, Arkansas-based 7 Brew Coffee – its sixth in town – opened April 22 at 404 E. Sunshine St. Near the intersection of Sunshine Street and Jefferson Avenue, the newest local 7 Brew employs 45, officials say. Brothers Chris and Brandon Sebald and friend Larry Wilson are company franchisees via Brew Crew LLC. Brandon Sebald said startup costs were roughly $1 million for the 510-square-foot coffee stand, which was approved for the corner by a 5-3 vote of Springfield City Council in January 2023. That vote OK’d a conditional use permit for the three-lane drive-thru, following a rezoning to a limited business district from single-family residential in summer 2022. Sebald said the franchise group plans in September to open another 7 Brew on East Battlefield Road in front of Gabe’s, a retail chain that purchased Old Time Pottery in 2023. He said Arkansas-based Brew Crew operates 30 locations across Missouri, Arkansas and Texas. According to its website, 7 Brew now has 250 shops in 29 states.
