MC Salon LLC
Replacing a longtime operating Fantastic Sams hair salon, MC Salon LLC opened May 1 at 1845 E. Turner St., Ste. D. Co-owned by Amy Clark and Elizabeth Moore, the business’ name incorporates the initials of the owners’ last names, but Clark said it also represents “Mad Cutters.” Clark said she, and many of the eight current employees, worked at the Fantastic Sams for years. It’d been in operation for more than 30 years and was purchased for an undisclosed price from previous owners, David and Lynette Weatherford. Making her first foray into ownership, Clark said the shop underwent $7,000-$10,000 in renovations, funded in part by a microloan through the U.S. Small Business Administration. The 2,100-square-foot shop is on a five-year lease with The Wooten Co. for an undisclosed rate. The full-service salon offers haircuts for $16-$28, $10 waxes, perms starting at $47 and hair coloring from $50. It also sells Matrix hair care products.

Luco’s Pizza
Although not his first time working in the restaurant industry, Daniel Fenton debuted May 21 as a business owner with Luco’s Pizza at 2925 W. Republic Road, Ste. 100. Previously the location of a Rib Shack restaurant, he said the 1,200-square-foot establishment was updated with new ovens, a walk-in freezer, furniture and a fresh paint job. Fenton declined to disclose startup costs, as well as the rate of his three-year lease with Martin Property Management LLC. The menu features a dozen specialty pizzas priced $8.50-$19, along with a create-your-own option, salads, beer and sodas. Located next door to Bugsy Malone’s, Fenton said the pizza shop has been a beneficiary of late-night traffic from its neighbor. Seating capacity for the restaurant is 32, and there are seven employees. Fenton said he grew up in Springfield but had recently been living in St. Louis. He returned to the Queen City earlier this year to start his own shop, which is named after his dog.

Inspired Boutique
After searching for several months, Inspired Boutique found a new home in the Half-A-Hill Center. The upscale resale shop moved May 7 to 2810 E. Battlefield Road, Ste. B, after vacating its 331 S. Campbell Ave. spot, said Megan Bleidistel, retail marketing specialist. Hearts of Fire Tattoo parlor moved into the downtown building. She said the Half-A-Hill space formerly housed a Subway, which moved a few doors down earlier this year. The boutique, which employs six, had outgrown its previous site, Bleidistel said, prompting its second relocation since opening in 2014. “It’s been a great decision,” she said, as foot traffic and donations have increased for selling women’s clothing, accessories, home decor and furniture. Mostly name brands of clothing, such as Loft, Chico’s and Banana Republic, are part of the store’s new and used offerings. The store is part of Abilities First, and proceeds go back to the not-for-profit, Bleidistel said. Terms of the lease with The Wooten Co. were undisclosed.
