Funky Flaura’s Unique Floral Designs
Downtown flower shop Funky Flaura’s Unique Floral Designs LLC opened Dec. 10 at 320 Park Central West. Owner Laura Younker said while she has seven years of experience creating floral arrangements for weddings as a side hustle and certification from the Floral Design Institute, the brick-and-mortar shop is her first ownership venture. Startup costs were $50,000, Younker said, adding she signed a one-year lease for $2,100 per month with Murray Loft Apartments LLC. The shop fills 3,100 square feet formerly occupied by Hurts Donut Co., which relocated last year near Mercy Hospital Springfield. Funky Flaura’s offers floral arrangements and delivery, houseplants, gifts, repotting services and workshops. Houseplants begin at $10 and floral arrangements start at $25, she said, adding the store’s east side has rentable event space for groups of roughly 35 people. Cost is $40 per hour or $100 for three hours. Upcoming wearable floral art workshops cost $35 for a two-hour session, according to the store’s website.

Jordan Valley Community Health Center
Nearly a decade operating a clinic in Republic, Jordan Valley Community Health Center moved April 24 to a larger, newly constructed facility at 649 E. Elm St. Jordan Valley spokesperson Courtney Furgerson said Branco Enterprises Inc. served as general contractor for the $5.1 million clinic designed by Paragon Architecture LLC. The health care system previously operated at 550 E. Harrison St. in the Towne Center Plaza, where it opened in 2014. Furgerson said Jordan Valley had outgrown space in the shopping center, adding the free-standing Republic clinic allows for expanded medical, dental, behavioral health and vision services for children and adults. With 21 exam rooms, there are three dental providers, three medical providers, one behavioral health provider and an optometrist on-site. Officials expect to handle more than 15,000 patient visits per year. Furgerson said Patricia Howell manages the 13-employee clinic.

The Jackson Grille
A 150-year-old Marshfield building that has spent most of its existence as a house of worship reopened May 25 as The Jackson Grille LLC, a prime rib and steakhouse restaurant. The venture at 301 S. Clay St. is co-owned by husband and wife Randy and Jan Clair, along with Jeff White, who also serves as the eatery’s culinary director. The Clairs also own the roughly 5,000-square-foot building, White said. Startup costs were $370,000, White said, adding the owners hired local Amish construction workers to complete much of the infill work. He said the menu was designed with upscale dining in mind, noting the prime rib sizes range from 8 ounces to a 64-ounce “kingdom” cut. Other entrees include filets, ribeyes, pork chops, cashew chicken and Chilean sea bass. Most entree prices range $14-$42. The property initially was purchased in 1869 for construction of a Methodist Episcopal church and later rebuilt in 1881 after the structure was heavily damaged by an 1880 tornado, according to the restaurant’s website.
