One hotel cuts ribbon, another breaks ground in Springfield

Two hotels in different stages of development are holding ceremonies this week in Springfield.

Officials with Homewood Suites by Hilton had a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday after opening in March, and a groundbreaking event for Element by Westin is scheduled this afternoon, according to separate news releases.

Tulsa, Oklahoma, hotel developer Vipul Patel, through Reliance Hotels LLC, broke ground in October 2019 on the $17.2 million Homewood Suites project, according to past reporting. Springfield-based BRP Architects designed the project built by Tulsa-based Shani Deva Construction LLC.

The 122-room Homewood Suites is on the Medical Mile at 4340 S. National Ave., according to a news release. It's located at National Avenue and Lark Street, across the street from Kelly Greens Apartments.

The hotel is managed by Sonja Needham, said Cindy Reed, its director of sales.

A 4 p.m. groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled today for Element Hotel by Westin at 1031 E. Battlefield Road, according to a separate news release.

Bryan Properties made its plans public for the 123-room hotel late last year, and costs were undisclosed. It's located near Andy B's and the National Avenue and Battlefield Road intersection.

“The Element by Westin in Springfield will feature a bright design that defies convention, bringing a fresh look to the gateway of the Medical Mile,” said Brad Gebhard, chief financial officer of Bryan Properties, in the release.

Officials said Camdenton-based Thomas Construction was awarded the building contract for the project scheduled to open in summer 2023. H Design Group LLC previously was announced as project architect.
