Company officials say the new Big Whiskey’s in Jefferson City set a record opening sales weekend.

One Big Whiskey’s franchise closes, another opens

The last month has been a mixed bag for Big Whiskey’s, as one franchise closed and another opened.

Joy White, director of marketing for the Ozark-based restaurant chain and franchisor, said a Las Vegas franchise location closed Sept. 30. Henderson, Nevada-based Calant Capital LLC opened the restaurant in February at Town Square Vegas, an open-air shopping and entertainment center on the south side of the Las Vegas Strip.

“We were very disappointed and shocked. We can't comment further as we work through the legal aspects of the closure,” White said via email, noting Big Whiskey’s has not filed suit. “We are attempting to reach a settlement and legal talks are currently remaining internal.”

White added Big Whiskey’s is seeking a new Las Vegas-area franchisee to again put down roots in the tourist market.

Less than a month after the closure in Sin City, a Jefferson City franchise restaurant opened with record sales, officials say.

H2B Restaurants LLC, which is co-owned by local businessmen Ed House and Ryan Bohl of Bohl, House, & Samek CPAs, opened the restaurant at the state capital on Oct. 18, according to a news release.

Declining to disclose sales, White said opening weekend revenue beat the previous record set by the Lee’s Summit location by 22%. H2B Restaurants also opened the Lee’s Summit restaurant — in May 2017 — but it became corporate owned in March, Springfield Business Journal previously reported.

The release indicated more franchise agreements are in the works: Franchise stores in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Birmingham, Alabama, already have been announced.

BigWhiskeys.com lists 11 open restaurants, two of which are franchises.
