Brent McCoy, an OakStar Bank vice president since 2015, died April 19. He was 43.
His obituary at LindleyFuneralHomes.com cited "a long, hard-fought battle with the aftereffects of COVID-19."
In hiring McCoy, OakStar Bank created a new role for him: vice president of business development and commercial lending, according to past reporting. Before that, he worked nearly nine years as vice president of membership at the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
"Brent was a loving father, husband, friend, team member and so much more," OakStar Bank officials wrote in a Facebook post about McCoy's death. "He left an impact on the lives of all that knew him and is leaving a legacy that will truly never be forgotten."
Honored by Springfield Business Journal in 2014 for the Men of the Year awards, McCoy offered insight into his professional motivations.
“Each day I make things happen," he said at the time. “I am not one to sit idle and watch the world go by.”
During his time at the chamber, McCoy is credited with leading two membership drives that set industry records for investment dollars raised.
Additionally, McCoy was an active member of Rotary Club of Springfield Sunrise since 2008, according to his obituary. He served two consecutive terms on the Child Advocacy Center board, and his board work also included Western Governors University, Mercy Health Foundation and Community Blood Center of the Ozarks.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
Brent McCoy was one of the finest young men in our community. I served on several committees when he was VP of Membership at the Springfield Chamber. He had a distinct professionalism and warmth to welcome and put members at ease. He fostered opportunity, sought out a way to help connect members. We got business done- in an organized way while having fun. Brent showed everyone kindness and was a friend. He was a class act. My condolences to his family and close friends. I will remember his inspiring message; "Each day I make things happen, I am not one to sit idle and watch the world go by"
