A Marshfield restaurant inspired by healthy eating and diverse intellectual pursuits is closing.
Polymath Educational Cafe LLC owner ML Obermaier said today is the last day open for the 381 McNabb Road restaurant.
"It's been really hard the last year with prices going up," Obermaier said.
Obermaier noted, too, that her children have moved out of the area, and she's considering a relocation to be closer to them.
Founded in 2017, Polymath Educational Cafe also operated a location at The Library Center in Springfield for a year through mid-May.
The menu features items such as cinnamon rolls, hot chocolate, coffee, sandwiches and salads, with plant-based and other healthy options.
Obermaier said she hasn't yet decided her plans for the 1,800-square-foot building she owns in Marshfield.
Obermaier previously told Springfield Business Journal that she considers herself a polymath, defined as a person of great and diversified learning. She has a background as a math specialist, computer programming teacher and artificial intelligence enthusiast, and as a seasoned professional in photography and cooking. With Polymath Educational Cafe, she sought to create a place that celebrated nourishment and knowledge.
"When choosing the name Polymath Educational Cafe, I wanted it to reflect the essence of what we stand for. Poly means many, and math means things. Many great polymaths throughout history also embraced a healthy lifestyle,” Obermaier told SBJ for an August 2023 article.
