The Kitchen Inc. has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for a new affordable housing development in west Springfield.

The 44-unit Maplewood Villas, designed for low-income and formerly homeless older adults, especially veterans, will be located at 550 N. Duke Ave., according to a news release from the nonprofit. The site is near the Walmart Neighborhood Market on the corner of West Bypass and Mount Vernon Street.

"The Kitchen Inc. will provide an on-site case manager to support residents, connect residents with community resources and organize events that promote community building," officials said in the release.

The development is funded with financing from the Missouri Housing Development Commission, The Bank of Missouri and CRA Investments. The project cost was not included in the release.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. July 28.

Maplewood Villas is The Kitchen’s fifth housing development, according to its website.
