Nixa gains new restaurant, event venue

A new dining option that includes indoor and outdoor event space is set to launch this week in Nixa.

Final touches are being completed for The Collective Eclectic Eatery and Event Center, 1528 N. Main St., in advance of its planned Thursday opening, said General Manager Denise Colehour. She said the space for the restaurant and event venue, which operates under 1528 LLC, has undergone renovations since last year.

Mike Oden, who has around 50 years of experience in the restaurant industry, owns the building and business, Colehour said. Oden has owned eateries in Kansas City and Branson, such as Odee’s Bar-B-Q, which Colehour said shuttered a few years ago. She estimated startup costs are roughly $600,000, adding some locals may remember the building as the former home of Bumsteads.

“Every room has been redone and the outside as well. There was a back patio added,” she said. “Mike started working on it about a year ago.”

Colehour said some of the venue’s unique decor includes a nonworking airplane parked outside, as well as a steampunk-themed indoor bar area dubbed The Boiler Room.

She said Oden originally planned to develop the property into a sandwich shop, but the opportunity to add an event venue caused him to change course. The Collective has roughly 3,500 square feet inside and 17,000 square feet outside. Colehour said indoor seating for around 100 customers is available, with seats for dozens more outside.

The restaurant’s menu is American fare, with barbecue, steaks, prime rib and a weekly shrimp and crab boil special to be served, Colehour said. Prices generally start around $12 for sandwiches and salads, topping out roughly $40 for steaks.

“There are several good options on the upper end, and we also have staples like chicken fried steak and pork chops,” she said.

Roughly 30 employees are on staff, which she said could expand if needed for working events on-site. The venue is available for weddings, receptions, anniversaries and parties, she said, adding the outdoor area has a stage and dance floor. The venue also includes indoor and outdoor bars.

“We’re on 2 acres of property here, so we have quite a bit of space to work with outside,” she said.
