The Nixa Area Chamber of Commerce’s biggest annual business event is returning this month after taking 2020 off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chris Russell, the chamber’s president, said the Nixpo Business and Community Expo is set for March 20 at Nixa High School. Admission is free.
“Our businesses could always use a boost,” he said, noting the in-person event requires face masks and temperature check stations will be on-site. “This is a big event for them each year and really helps them to succeed.”
Roughly 110 of the 120 booths available for businesses have been sold, Russell said, adding he expects the remainder to be filled prior to the event.
It’s a second attempt for the 25th year of Nixpo, as the annual event was initially postponed, then later canceled in 2020, amid the pandemic. Russell said the chamber typically earns $40,000-$50,000 from Nixpo for annual operating costs.
“We’re also adding a bridal boutique fashion show to go on in the auxiliary gym at the same time. That’ll have another 30-plus booths in it,” Russell said, noting it’ll feature businesses that offer wedding services, such as floral shops, photographers and event centers. “It’s kind of an event inside of an event.”
Nixpo attendance generally averages 3,000-5,000 annually. However, estimates are lower this year, chamber officials say.
“We’re hoping if we get a couple thousand in there for this first time back, we’ll be doing really well,” Russell said.
Beyond Nixpo, Russell said planning also is in progress for the chamber’s largest annual event, Sucker Days Music, Arts and Crafts Festival. The 63rd annual festival, which was called off last year due to coronavirus concerns, is scheduled May 21-22.
