S&H Farm Supply in Rogersville named Steve Bishop service coordinator and Jim Spencer sales representative. Bishop owned a farm equipment store for more than 10 years before selling it in 1994. Spencer, a University of Missouri-Columbia graduate with a degree in agricultural economics, has worked as executive director of the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association and the Ozark Empire Fair.

Community

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America named Central High School sophomore Abbie McLaughlin the 2006 Missouri Youth of the Year. McLaughlin earned $2,000 in scholarships and will go on to compete at the regional level in Chicago for a $10,000 scholarship.

Education

Southwest Baptist University hired Sharina Smith as its new senior director of marketing and communications. Smith previously served as administrative assistant to the worship pastor at Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

Evangel University’s chapter of Alpha Chi, a national academic honor society, was recognized as a Star Chapter at the Region IV conference in Kansas City. Chapters chosen as Star Chapters must meet a list of criteria, including sponsoring of a scholarly program on campus and making presentations at the regional and national conventions.

Insurance

Clara Lawrence joined Moore Insurance Agency Inc. Lawrence, who will serve the agency as licensed office manager and solicitor for American National Insurance Co. agent Amy Moore, has more than 15 years of experience.

Literature

Kate Klise received the 2006 Quill Award, the literary prize given each year by the Writers Hall of Fame of America’s Missouri Ozarks Chapter. Klise joins a list of award winners that includes Springfieldian David Harrison.

Media

Shirley Shedd, adviser to Evangel’s campus newspaper, The Lance, was given the Roger Carlson Missouri College Media Association Advisers Hall of Fame Award at the association’s annual conference in St. Louis. The award is given to honor longtime college media advisers who have shown dedicated service to their staffs and to the association.

Sales

The Carpet Shoppe announced two staff promotions. Tamara Stark was named executive administrative assistant to Dale Pearce, the owner and general manager, and Mike Bland was promoted to sales manager of the building division. Stark, who was previously office manager, has been with the company since 1977. Bland has been with the company for seven years and has more than 20 years of floor-covering experience.[[In-content Ad]]
