New tech industry association to make public debut

Posted online

A new industry association for technology professionals is set to make its public debut next month.

A ribbon-cutting event for the Springfield Technology Council is scheduled July 13 at Bluebird Underground Data Center, according to a news release. Bluebird Network is a founding investor in the technology group.

“Having an organization like the Springfield Tech Council presents a situation where everyone has an opportunity to grow,” said Michael Morey, president and CEO of Bluebird Network, in the release. “They have the ability to connect business owners, CEOs, IT directors and more, which allows them to learn about each other and support each other’s businesses.

"It’s about solving problems and some of those solutions are right here in your backyard.”

The organization’s website also lists Pitt Technology Group as an investor.

Springfield Tech Council board President Nick Lofaro, chief information officer at Guaranty Bank, is scheduled to speak at the event and introduce the programming and events the organization will host, according to the release.

The group is planning to host annual awards honoring excellence in technology, an annual tech expo, quarterly leadership exchanges and workshops, and monthly member mixers and programming, according to its website. The organization also plans to be active in political advocacy for tech.

Springfield Tech Council, which was founded this year, reported 50 members for SBJ's annual list of the area's largest industry networking groups. The list was published May 10.

The association was formed in January through the merger of The Association of IT Professionals - Ozarks Chapter and The Mid America Technology Alliance, according to SBJ list research.
