New pub opens in south Springfield

A Hollister pub is making its Springfield debut today.

Downing Street Pour House opened at 1724 E. Battlefield Road, in a roughly 5,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Jason’s Deli. The restaurant serves up American comfort food, such as wings and burgers, as well as traditional pub classics, including fish and chips and shepherd’s pie, and alcohol offerings.

“Our soft opening went absolutely amazing. Our team did a great job of coming together and putting out some wonderful food,” said Shileene Juber, Downing Street managing partner, of the pub’s soft launch this past week.

The ownership group of Downing Street includes Tammy Roberts, Derrick Melugin, Jason Roberts and Brad Leighninger , as well as franchisee Matt Arnall, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. The group, the same behind the ownership of barbecue eatery Gettin’ Basted, started the location in Hollister in 2017.

The pub, which employs 60, was set to open in May, but Juber said infill work was behind the delay. Declining to disclose investment costs, she said the COVID-19 pandemic has not hindered plans.

“Downing Street is a very known name and we have a ton of people excited to come in,” she said. “We’re 100% confident at opening at this time.”
