New Mercy-GoHealth center coming to East Sunshine

$5.8M clinic to replace existing Mercy facility

Mercy Springfield Communities broke ground yesterday on a $5.8 million clinic slated to replace an adjacent facility in south Springfield.

Springfield Business Journal previously reported on the plans, but it was unclear whether the new project would replace or expand Mercy’s 2754 W. Republic Road clinic.

The new 13,000-square-foot center, with space for up to 10 providers at 2716 W. Republic Road, would be Mercy’s first newly built primary clinic in Springfield in some 20 years. It’s slated to open in fall 2019, according to a news release.

“We know we need to be ready where and when our patients need us,” said Dr. Jennifer McNay, Mercy internal medicine doctor and vice president of primary care, in the release. “By expanding where our patients live and work, hopefully everyone will feel our presence when they need our services – whether that’s for routine preventative care or sick, complex needs.”

Businessman Doug Pitt’s Pitt Development Group LLC — which has managed construction for six Mercy projects in Missouri and Kansas the past three years — is the developer, with Larry Snyder and Co. on as general contractor and BatesForum LLC serving as architect.

Mercy Springfield Communities is rolling out its third co-branded urgent care center in the Queen City in less than a year.

Spokeswoman Sonya Kullmann said a Mercy-GoHealth Urgent Care center is slated to open in January at the Sidewalk Plaza shopping center, 3233 E. Sunshine St.

Rita Baron, Sidewalk Plaza’s owner via Raga Properties LLC, said Mercy signed a 10-year lease for 2,200 square feet on the west side of the shopping center. She said Sidewalk Plaza, which also includes tenants Eat Fit Go Healthy Foods and Pita Pit, is now fully leased.

Kullmann said Mercy and GoHealth Urgent Care — affiliated with Access Clinical Partners LLC, which is owned by TPG Growth — determine whether to place the centers based on traffic counts and popular growth areas in town.

The urgent care center will join two retail-focused health care centers that opened in May at 900 E. Battlefield Road in Battlefield Market Place and 2150 W. Republic Road in Magers Crossing, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

GoHealth creates the physical space for the center, including the outline and design, as well as providing clerical and support staff. Mercy staffs the centers with health care providers and nurse practitioners, SBJ previously reported.
