FosterAdopt Connect has appointed a new leader for its local operation following the exit this summer of Brandi VanAntwerp.
Chris Berger has been hired as executive director of the Independence-based nonprofit's Springfield office, effective Aug. 12, according to a news release. VanAntwerp led the Springfield operation for nearly three years until taking the top job at United Way of the Ozarks earlier this summer.
Berger joins FosterAdopt Connect after retiring in June from his role as superintendent of the Wright City R-II School District. He was a school superintendent for 11 years at various districts.
"The entire Wright City community came together to face the challenges of growth, and that collaborative spirit inspired me to transition into the non-profit sector," he said in the release. "My time as a superintendent in my home county was both formative and meaningful. I found great fulfillment in working with students and families who faced challenges similar to those I experienced growing up."
At FosterAdopt Connect, Berger will lead the Springfield and Branson regions, oversee community development initiatives and conduct fundraising efforts for the organization that provides support and advocacy for foster and adoptive children who have faced abuse and neglect.
"I am committed to our vision and eager to contribute positively towards our goals. The opportunity to continue impacting lives excites me the most," Berger said in the release.
FosterAdopt Connect's Springfield office has an operating budget of $3.5 million and around 60 employees, Berger said via email.
