Kevin Dunaway is exiting his longtime home at Neale & Newman LLP for Evans & Dixon LLC's Springfield office.
Dunaway starts today as of counsel, said Evans & Dixon spokesperson Amy Haller. He worked at Neale & Newman since 1983, first as a clerk and then starting as an attorney three years later. He became a partner in the firm five years out of law school, according to past reporting.
“I’m so excited for this new chapter in my career," Dunaway said via email. "It’s always been my dream to associate with a firm like Evans & Dixon: a firm full of consummate professionals, in a myriad of specialties, which allows me to more effectively serve my client base."
Dunaway becomes the ninth local attorney for Evans & Dixon, which operates at 4905 S. National Ave. under the management of Brad Tuck, Haller said. With 19 employees, the office focuses on workers’ compensation, insurance, civil litigation and construction law, among other areas. Haller said Dunaway joining Evans & Dixon is not a retirement move for him.
Of counsel, according to the Nolo dictionary, may refer to an “attorney who occasionally uses the office for a few clients, or one who only consults on certain matters.” It also can refer to an attorney who's affiliated with a law firm but not empoyed as a partner or associate, or identify a semiretired partner.
Evans & Dixon ranked No. 11 on Springfield Business Journal's 2020 list of the area's largest law firms, with eight attorneys as of May 4. The St. Louis-based company operates seven offices in the Midwest, Haller said.
Neale & Newman officials declined to comment on Dunaway’s exit. The firm ranked No. 2 on SBJ’s 2020 largest law firms list, with 17 attorneys. The company reported 13 partners and 45 total employees at the time. Its website now lists 12 partners.
Neale & Newman last year moved to Farmers Park after nearly 40 years operating on East Sunshine Street.
