MSU board to consider buying small downtown parcel

Posted online

The Missouri State University Board of Governors this week is scheduled to consider a downtown land purchase.

The board's Feb. 17 meeting agenda seeks permission to buy the empty lot at 414-430 N. Boonville Ave. for $490,000. West of the Efactory and south of Jordan Valley Innovation Center, the site previously housed a building that was home to nightclubs Touche and The Edge, and it had an exterior mural paying homage to its days as Ballew Saw & Tool, according to past reporting. The building was razed after it caught fire in 2020.

"The property is well suited for operational needs of the university," the board agenda reads.

Suzanne Shaw, vice president of marketing and communications for MSU, confirmed via email the property would be earmarked for "operational use." She did not elaborate.

The property is less than an acre in size and located immediately north of the Efactory's back parking lot, according to Greene County assessor data.

The seller is 414 N. Boonville LLC, an entity owned by Matthew Miller, CEO of The Vecino Group LLC, according to the board agenda. The seller is working with the MSU Foundation for a gift recognition as the property is being sold below its $605,000 appraised value.

At the site, MSU and The Vecino Group previously had plans for a 100,000-square-foot office building, according to past reporting. That project was put on hold during the pandemic, OzarksFirst.com reports.

North of the site, MSU is expanding JVIC.
