After the Fourth of July holiday, the Missouri Department of Transportation plans to start a multimillion-dollar roadway improvement project at Highway 65 and Interstate 44.
Phase II of MoDOT’s The Rebuild campaign, workers are slated to start July 6 removing and rebuilding the southbound Highway 65 bridge over I-44, according to a news release.
St. Charles-based Millstone Weber Inc. is the contractor for the $4.3 million project expected to be complete in mid-August.
Other Phase II work includes:
• repaving southbound Highway 65 between Valley Water Mill Road and Kearney Street;
• rebuilding ramps at Highway 65 and I-44;
• upgrading guardrails; and
• rebuilding shoulders.
Photos of the intersection provided by MoDOT show potholes, cracks, asphalt patches and other signs of disrepair.
In the $7.9 million first phase of The Rebuild, MoDOT worked to improve the southbound lanes between Kearney and Sunshine streets. A third phase would rebuild outside lanes on Highway 65 between Sunshine Street and James River Freeway, said MoDOT spokeswoman Angela Eden.
Eden said the total three-phase project cost is estimated at $20.3 million.
“The three projects aim to take care of the state’s existing highway infrastructure,” she said via email.
