A new mobile coffee and tea business is operating in Marshfield in advance of an Aug. 12 grand opening.
Aug. 2 marked a soft opening for Dripz and Dreamz Mo-Lo, which is set up at 50 York Drive in front of Prairie Plaza shopping center. Owner Shellie Davis said the venture, which is registered with the state secretary of state’s office as D N D MOLO LLC, is her first foray into the food service industry. She and her husband, Jeremiah, previously owned construction company Davis Home Renovation and Repair LLC for roughly 16 years before she made the professional pivot this year.
“It’s kind of always been a dream of mine to serve people,” Davis said. “I really want to do the bakery side, but I plan on gradually adding that.”
Davis said she bought the trailer from her brother-in-law, Justin Davis, who owns the brick-and-mortar shop of Dripz and Dreamz in Cleveland, Oklahoma. She said her brother-in-law and his wife, Meranda, had no use for the trailer, which led her to start the mobile business, noting Mo-Lo is short for “Missouri location.”
“We actually got it at the end of last year in October, and we planned on opening it the first of the year, but my husband took a fall in January,” she said, noting the construction site accident resulted in him breaking bones in the heels of both feet. “He was wheelchair bound, non-weight bearing for four months. So that kind of set us back for opening it up.”
Startup costs were roughly $15,000, Davis said, adding she is on an open-ended lease for an undisclosed rate with Wayne York Enterprises. Davis said while she’ll have occasional help from her two daughters, she currently is the shop’s lone employee.
The menu for Dripz and Dreamz includes coffee options such as breves, lattes and frappes, along with raspberry, matcha and chai teas. It also offers Lotus energy drinks and lemonade. Davis said she hopes to add a few food choices in time for the grand opening.
“It’s going to be simple. I think we’re eventually going to add biscuits and gravy in the mornings, which will be made from scratch,” she said. “Then for lunchtime and the evenings it’s going to be hot dogs. And then I’ll have homemade cookies.”
Thai Garden LLC launched; Norman, Oklahoma-based Traffic Engineering Consultants Inc. opened a Springfield office; and mobile app Ozarks Connect got its start.
