The Show-Me State’s unemployment rate ticked up to 3.1 percent in December, according to the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
The increase follows a drop in November to 3 percent, the lowest point on record for the state’s historical data source officials began collecting in 1976, according to a news release.
Not accounting for seasonality, the state’s unemployment rate was 3 percent in December, compared with the U.S. jobless rate of 3.7 percent during the last month of 2018.
Last month, Missouri recorded nonfarm payroll employment growth of 4,100 net jobs, accounting for seasonality, according to the release.
The growth was led by increases in:
• accommodation and food services, up 1,800 jobs;
• health care and social assistance, up 1,800;
• professional and business services, up 1,200;
• arts, entertainment and recreation, up 800; and
• durable goods manufacturing, up 600.
The gains offset decreases in transportation, warehousing and utilities, which lost 1,200 jobs, and nondurable goods manufacturing, down 1,000 jobs, according to the release.
Through the 12-month period ending Dec. 31, Missouri employers added 39,000 jobs, representing a 1.4 percent increase.
