Missouri Broadcasters Hall of Fame to induct Meyers

Posted online

The Missouri Broadcasters Association this summer is scheduled to induct Ken and Jane Meyer into its Hall of Fame.

During the June ceremony, the Missouri Broadcasters Association also is scheduled to induct Mike Shannon, a St. Louis Cardinals radio broadcaster, and Jerome Zimmer, founder of Zimmer Broadcasting, according to a news release.

In 1964, the Meyers formed Springfield-based Meyer Communications Inc., the owner of radio stations KWTO AM, Jock 98.7 FM, KBFL AM and FM, and KTXR FM. The company previously owned stations in Kansas City, Fulton, and Kennett in Missouri, as well as stations in Amarillo, Texas, and Montgomery, Ala.

Ken Meyer, president of the company, is scheduled to receive the honor during the 68th annual Missouri Broadcasters Association Awards Banquet on June 11 at the Branson Convention Center. Jane Meyer died in 2002, according to the release.

The couple’s Kenneth E. and Jane A. Meyer Foundation has given back to the community, largely targeting the higher education, arts and health care industries. Gifts have included a $1.5 million donation in 2008 to CoxHealth for its Meyer Orthopedic Center.

Ken Meyer also owns Meyer Farms Inc., a 30-acre vineyard near Freistatt, southwest of Mount Vernon.

The Missouri Broadcasters Association established its Hall of Fame in 2011. The Jefferson City organization advocates on behalf of Show-Me State broadcasters, according to MBAweb.org.
