Mid America Metals expands through partnership deal

Ozark-based architectural restoration company Mid America Metals is expanding through a multifaceted partnership deal.

Mid America Metals agreed to buy New York City-based Stuart Dean Co.’s contracts in the Southeast United States, specifically east of the Mississippi River and south of Virginia, said Dale Donat, co-founder and director of corporate development for the Ozark company. He said the acquisition for undisclosed terms gave Mid America Metals 200 new contracts and increased its employee count by 43 to nearly 150 people.

“We’re picking up almost all of their employees in that geographic territory,” Donat said.

Mid America Metals also will become a certified dealer of Stuart Dean and handle the New York City firm’s work in the Southeast and Midwest, Donat said. Stuart Dean would continue to maintain the customer relationships while Mid America Metals handles the work on job sites, he said.

Mid America Metals refinishes architectural wood, stone and metal surfaces for commercial buildings and skyscrapers, Donat said. Stuart Dean provides interior and exterior architectural restoration services, according to its website.

“These are the biggest and nicest looking buildings in every city. They need to be maintained,” he said. “It just all gets worn down over some period of time.”

Clients have included the St. Louis Art Museum; Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C.; Texas Rangers Ballpark in Arlington; and Kansas City’s Crown Center and Kauffman Stadium.

Donat in April handed the CEO reins to his son, Brandon. At the time, Dale Donat said 2018 revenue exceeded $10 million.
