Mercy Springfield Communities is ready to open its latest Queen City clinic less than a year after breaking ground on the multimillion-dollar project.

A ribbon-cutting and blessing ceremony is scheduled 10:30 a.m. Jan. 9 at 1718 W. Woodland St., according to a news release. The Mercy Clinic Family Medicine – South Creek replaces a nearby, older facility.

The clinic is slated to open to patients on Jan. 10, said Mercy spokesperson Sonya Kullmann.

Mercy broke ground on the $3.2 million, 5,100-square-foot clinic in May 2022, according to past reporting. The clinic replaces Mercy's existing South Creek facility at 2711 S. Meadowbrook Ave. and adds 1,500 square feet of additional space.

St. Louis-based McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. served as general contractor for the project designed by Wichita, Kansas-based HFG Architecture, Springfield Business Journal previously reported.

The new clinic is designed with a blood draw area, two procedure rooms and five additional exam rooms for a total of 11. Several of the exam spaces have exterior entrances and private restrooms to allow patients with contagious illnesses to avoid waiting rooms. Additionally, the building uses centralized workstations.

Separately, Mercy is targeting a fall 2023 completion date for a $6 million, nearly 11,000-square-foot clinic at 3530 W. Mount Vernon St., on the corner of Mount Vernon and West Bypass next to Walmart Neighborhood Market, SBJ previously reported. DeWitt & Associates Inc. is serving as general contractor for the project designed by Buf Studio, and designs call for 12 exam rooms for primary care and five exam rooms for occupational medicine, among other treatment areas.
