Silver Dollar City signed Mercy as its official health care sponsor.
The financial terms of the multiyear sponsorship were undisclosed in a news release.
“We know many of our visitors come from the communities Mercy serves,” said Brad Thomas, president of Silver Dollar City Attractions, in the release. “It made sense to choose a well-respected, familiar name to advise us on ways to keep our guests healthy.”
Mercy will provide simple treatment services, such as first aid, and the health care system has worked with Silver Dollar City to launch a calming space for guests who experience sensory overload.
Located at Red Gold Heritage Hall, the calming space includes a textured wall portraying the Frisco train at the theme park, comforting colors, soft seating, low lighting, books and sensory toys, according to the release.
"Some people with developmental disabilities, like autism, need quiet and very little movement to calm down,” said Dr. Kyle John, child psychiatrist and vice president of Mercy’s behavioral health program, in the release. “But some actually need outside stimulation or repetitive motion to feel more grounded.”
Another feature of the sponsorship is Mercy's electronic health records will be available with health care officials at the park.
"If you’re already a Mercy patient and you need care while you’re here, our providers have access to your health records. We’ll know about your allergies and what medications you’re taking. When you return home, that connection continues, because your family doctor will have the details of any treatment Mercy provided during your trip," said Craig McCoy, president of Mercy Springfield Communities, in the release.
