Mercy Springfield Communities completed construction on the final phase of its Heart Hospital Springfield, according to a news release issued this morning.
The four-year, $80 million project included three operating rooms, eight catheterization labs and a dedicated, separate entrance, according to past reporting. Hospital officials say the 140,000-square-foot hospital centralizes cardiovascular care.
“While the facility is patient-friendly and beautiful, it’s really the care you’re getting inside that matters,” said Dr. Jessica Birchem, Mercy cardiologist, in the release. “We offer the most comprehensive, advanced heart care in the area. And, with the entire team concentrated in one area, the teamwork is enhanced. We’re able to quickly consult on the best care for our patients.”
The bulk of the project was a renovation, but it also includes a 14,000-square-foot addition, according to past reporting. Work on the project began in 2016, and cost also included relocating the hospital cafeteria.
McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. served as the general contractor. The Lamar Johnson Collaborative LLC was the project architect, and IMEG Corp. was the structural and mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer.
Construction for the project completed on time in July, said Mercy spokesperson Sonya Kullman. She added hospital staff have spent the past few months installing medical equipment.
